It’s funny because endocrine-disputing chemicals dumped by humans really are messing frogs up quite badly, but now you can’t bring it up without people getting the wrong idea about your political views…

I was listening to radio the other week when they were talking about companies dumping chemicals into British rivers. The effects that they were talking about sounded awfully familiar to anyone who has ever heard Alex Jones open his mouth.

They’re actually putting chemicals in the water that’s turning the frogs gay! (kinda…amongst other things)

You know you’ve fucked up when you’re making Alex Jones sound sane.

the thing is , what you’re trying to imply the bad part is.

“They’re putting chemicals into the water” > this should stop because it’s pollution being done as a cost cutting measure.

        or

“The frogs are turning gay” > being gay is bad, that’s why we should stop people trying to make things gay on purpouse to stop homosexuality.

The top one is sensible, the bottom one is psychotic

Nothing wrong with being gay. Gonna have some population problems when everyone’s gay.

That said, it’d be an interesting novel.

right, which is why putting chemicals in the water that turn the frikkin frogs gay is an example of something bad due to pollution.

The short answer is that the pollution is bad, but so is it’s effect of turning the frogs gay because it fucks with frog populations, which fucks with the entire food chain after a fashion.

Nothing necessarily wrong with homosexuality in any species (except maybe the ones who can only mate once, or the ones that engage in traumatic insemination where the males aren’t as equipped to deal with being on the receiving end), until it’s frequent enough to have population level impacts.

But that’s how Alex Jones scam works, he read the frogs gay headline and then started ranting about how the global elite are trying to destroy masculinity with hormones in the water because only real men vote right…

Sure, but “THEY’RE PUTTING CHEMICALS IN THE WATER THAT TURN THE FROGS GAY!!!” is the classic example used for Alex Jones sounding especially out there. To the point that there’s a clip of just that line that’s made the rounds for most of a decade to point out how crazy he is. Which makes it especially wild because it’s one of the things he’s said that’s actually true.

Turns out the media and memes are pretty terrible at getting to the more complex truth and problem with things.

Alex is worse though, he uses this headline to push the idea the government is evil and the epa should be scrapped which is the exact opposite of what will help

I find it funny because you’d think if the right wing is worried about chemical’s effects, that they’d be leading the charge to ban and restrict use of chemicals.

But they’re all free market, let the companies do whatever they want, government regulation gets in the way. It makes no sense.

See you don’t understand, when the government does it it’s bad but when companies do it it’s the free market at work and you shouldn’t interfere.

I know. But since then it has only become more ridiculous.

Edit: I can’t tell the difference between Alex Jones and Donald Trump. The only difference I can see is that one still is somewhat in business and one is your candidate for the next presidential election. And to me it seems like they are both in the same business.

It’s easy - one of them owes half a billion dollars in damages to families for claiming they were actually crisis actors and their kids really weren’t murdered by a mass shooter and the other one owes a few hundred million for a civil case of sexual assault that he’s challenging (and will probably have reduced some but not eliminated) in between prepping for four criminal trials (one of which is currently happening) - and THAT one is currently running for president.

I see. Not the agitator that is still spreading misinformation but the one with the fraudulent academy who is also spreading misinformation, owes the state of New York half a billion dollars for fraud and is apparently selling NFTs, golden sneakers, bibles and possibly state secrets - that one is running for president. Got it.

Do you think Europe doesn’t have pollution in agricultural run off?

It’s so difficult trying to get peopl here in non-america to care about real problems when everyone is under the impression america is the only place with problems.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical compound  primarily used in the manufacturing of various plastics…

… The health effects of BPA have been the subject of prolonged public and scientific debate. BPA is a xenoestrogen, exhibiting hormone-like properties that mimic the effects of estrogen in the body.

Bisphenol A (BPA), a hormone-disrupting chemical used in food packaging, is present in almost all Europeans’ bodies, posing a potential health risk.

A recent Horizon 2020 research initiative, HBM4EU, measured chemicals in people’s bodies in Europe and detected BPA in the urine of 92% of adult participants from 11 European countries.

The Copenhagen-based EEA said the share of adults exceeding the recommended maximum levels ranged from 71 to 100% in the 11 countries studied, referring to levels outlined by the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) in an April review.

I’ll just leave this for you to read further on this. https://www.google.com/search?q=bisphenol+a+european

If you want to debate this you are accused of being [buzzword]fobic or a [buzzword]ist.

I don’t know who he is.

I get called those things when I tell people I believe the cause that a lot of young people are struggling with their gender is because of hormone imbalance (before puberty) .

I believe this imbalance can caused by external factors, like digesting xenoestrogen.

It doesn’t mean because I think about that stuff and have a theory about it, that I am transphobic. Yet a lot of people can’t seem to see the difference between me just having a theory and “Alex Jones” ;)

Ah, see, why you get called transphobic is for several reasons:

              • You assume that the number of young transgender people is increasing simply because more are now safe enough to come out and because you’re hearing about it more now. See also: the rate of left-handedness in the US by birth year. The rate of left handedness didn’t quadruple because chemicals in the water were making everyone sinister, it’s because they stopped beating the shit out of children for writing with their left hand.

              • You speak about being transgender as a disease caused by environmental contamination. I will not elaborate on this one further as I feel what is wrong with that to be self evident.

The truth is trans adults are trans kids first, even if they aren’t able to express it to other people (for safety reasons or because they don’t understand it themselves). There have also been trans people (who again, were children before they were adults!) documented throughout history in essentially every society, regardless of how respected they were. If it’s plastic that’s turning all the kids trans, then that doesn’t fit the historical evidence; trans people existed long before plastics.

You’re entitled to your own opinions, you’re not entitled to your own facts. Which is what Alex Jones does, and why the comparison is getting drawn here.
