Former President Trump’s legal team suggested Tuesday that even a president directing SEAL Team Six to kill a political opponent would be an action barred from prosecution given a former executive’s broad immunity to criminal prosecution.

The hypothetical was presented to Trump attorney John Sauer who answered with a “qualified yes” that a former president would be immune from prosecution on that matter or even on selling pardons.

What do you mean you have an election to keep your country in existence?

Israel and Gaza are not on the US’ presidential ballot. Fending off a fascist autocrat that will make this our last semi free election, is on the ballot. Any argument about anything else is moot, and staying home is a vote for Trump. Intellectualizing doesn’t change that which is why purported leftists on Lemmy are either pathetically stupid, russian/GOP trolls, or edge lords.

You’re right, but the work doesn’t end at this election. There’s a long road of reforms or revolution required to move away from the conditions that made these two the only “options”. And your representatives aren’t going to do it for you.

Agreed. That’s why I voted to primary Pelosi out. Why I vote far left up and down the ballot. Why I’ve participated in and at times led activism for almost 30 years. But we aren’t having that kind of presidential election this year. We’re fighting a backslide unfortunately. And sadly we’re all finding the country is further right than we thought. We had Obama. They didn’t have a north star yet.
