As long as Israel continues to oppress Palestinians they will support whoever has the strength to fight back. Currently, that’s only really Hamas, so I don’t think these pics will change the mind of many people on the ground. Especially while they’re getting their houses and streets presently bombed by Israel…

For years Hamas was supported by key players in Israel. A strong Hamas helped to sow division in the Palestinian cause, undermining the two state solution.

      They’re supporting their continued oppression.

Correct. But for the people who don’t support Hamas they’re not really getting anything either. They’re still getting their settlements taken over in the West Bank, continued oppression by drone and outside control, and achieving nothing. At least the supporters of Hamas are getting revenge, they’re getting a feeling of fighting back (and keep in mind the life expectancy of the place is low, Gaza is mostly children and teens, who everyone knows are dumb, emotional, and easy to control and abuse. Sorry teens, but it’s true, we’ve all been there.).

In order to undermine Hamas and prove revenge and shit isn’t needed, we’re going to need Israel to lift the boot a little, and then negotiate with someone who’s not Hamas, like the PLO, to achieve not just peace, but a peace without oppression. We’ve seen this everywhere, from the hood of the US, to the terrorists of the middle east, to the pirates of Somalia, or in the warlord children armies of Africa. People in terrible conditions will, under pressure, become terrible people to survive. Not everyone, but statistically, it happens enough we can’t be surprised at the outcome anymore.

Thats all fine and dandy but the conflict keeps both Israeli and Palestinian leadership in power. Bibi is the iron fisted wartime leader who reignites conflict whenever his support is slipping. Hamas is barely worse than he is. The PLO leadership is much the same. There won’t be any peace until the ones negotiating care more about peace than power.
