One of my kids is developing into a wonderful person who is not cis gendered. This type of news only makes me want to change my marker to X. If more of us could agree to do this, regardless of our personal gender, then gender conformity wouldn’t even be a thing.

Well in 'murica it still would be.

Yep I am seriously considering doing this now also. AFAIK the X means ‘unspecified’ so it’s not as if a cis person using it is somehow appropriating an identity, right? That was my main hesitation

His lover is trans, you could assume good faith you know instead of being so aggressive with language policing.

Why doesn’t the roommate’s lover visit instead?

          She does, they take turns.

Sorry, I didn’t intend for my comment to be rude. I was trying to mean “fuck up” in a casual rather than aggressive meaning though I can see why it comes off differently. I.e. it was supposed to be a slightly less child friendly variant of “screw up” and more akin to the (basically nonexistant) rudeness of something like “wtf”.

Fair enough that they take turns, I didn’t think of that. Still, it would probably be smart to change this though they both are probably aware of this.

There are more than he/him/his and she/her/hers pronouns. Maybe they use they/them/theirs or some other set of pronouns.

I’m not terribly sure how much that is going to matter given the current disposition of most of us towards American bullshittery, and by that I mean to say that bureaucratic cowardice might play into their hands, but the people of Canada aren’t going to.

I also still have enough faith in our version of the democratic process to believe that if the current government’s posture was (or becomes) wholly incongruent with that of the body politic, we’d rearrange it next election. The fact is that Carney’s professed positions, at the time of the election at least, were aligned with ours moreso than the angry guy who lost his seat. I’m certainly less than impressed with what’s taken place since, but don’t know what I should have expected. This season’s script has been all over the place and the writing is awful.

Reflecting on this all, maybe the takeaway is that subconsciously, who I expected better from was the Americans, and that ought to be a lesson and a loud wake up call to us all.

This new rule violates the human rights of trans and non-binary people. That’s not something that is up for a majority vote. Human rights are non-negotiable, yet our government is not treating them as such.

Canadan siblings: you are witnessing the continuing lack of courage and action from the people of the USA. Don’t follow our example! Your government should rediscover backbone for your people, rather than strengthening the liplock on the backsides of billionaires and multinational megacorporations; but they won’t without direct action and constant, loud, vigorous, united expression of "absolutely not!” PLEASE protect your sovereignty, and set the example for us that we should have been setting for you, for decades.

    Love,

    Me

The alternatives, then, are as follows: ignore human rights for trans and non-binary folks, or cancel this agreement.

I’m kind of a fan of human rights, personally

He’s also throwing the environment under the bus to make Danielle Smith happy by working on an oil pipeline to sell more oil to Europe. (Who are working on reducing their dependency on oil already…)

We already can’t breathe here in Montréal with the amount of smog we have. But nooo. Gotta keep the “economy” rolling.

I had to search what the Mexico filter was lol! But yeah. It’s fucking real. The light is orange. Even in peak daylight. The past couple of weekends, friends and I have gone out and our throats were straight up burning. I also have asthma, which has worsened since catching covid and the damn super-flu that’s been going around, and my lungs are so congested. My medication can’t keep up. I’m fucking dying over here.

I say we make “American” a gender, and that you’re not American enough unless you have American as your gender.
