To a question about Trump’s remarks about Canada becoming the 51st U.S. state, the newly elected Carney replied, “There are some places that are never for sale … having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign, it’s not for sale. It won’t be for sale ever.”
Trump quipped on a couple of occasions that it was “all about time,” and to “never say never” to the idea of Canada’s annexation by the U.S.
I agree, but in context he was just extending a metaphor that treated the voters/citizens as “owners,” presumably because he thought Trump would understand the language better.
