Florida’s Republicans have a complicated relationship with disaster aid.
And they can have that help because we are not them.
Well, yes. But I think we should maybe make desantis jump through a few hoops before helping with his mansion. You know. Just to, make sure he gets the message. (“Don’t be an ass”)
More like every campaign ad that runs against him should make sure everyone knows he voted against aid before. And still aid was sent to Florida. And it was because of that aid, not him that more lives were saved. Because if he was in the opposite shoes he wouldn’t do a thing
… yes. but… I don’t feel like beign reasonable. I want to see DeShitStain get wrecked. (just not at the cost of anyone else.)
That’ll go over his head.
Pretty much everything goes over his head, it’s one of the drawbacks of being so short.
I am getting pretty tired of bailing out people who built in a place that gets hurricanes on a pretty much anual basis, though… Makes me think what they should start doing is refusing to pay for rebuilds- and instead just buy them out and turn the beach/whatever over to a patchwork of national ‘forests’ or something.
I disagree. He is an incredibly intelligent person. He just lacks any sort of shame or moral fortitude and believes that whatever it takes to enrich himself is justified.
It will be in the same place as his head.
…grrrrrreat idea… yes… help
blood vessel pops
We should give the aid, but all of it through federal channels. Like just completely bypass desantis, send FEMA in and set up themselves. Help the people, not their governor.
If desantis declared a state of emergency, that might actually be possible.
Well, that asshole also turned down over $350 million in funds to help mitigate climate change, because fuck Floridians. I hate that prick and can’t wait to move out of this fascist hellhole.
Florida is a disaster, and it always needs aid.
It’s not complicated at all. It’s a simple flowchart.
“Does the aid benefit me directly?”
- Yes: It’s nessecary and aid should be provided.
- No: This is a tragedy, but we shouldn’t be spending wastefully.
Still waiting for my check for paying for extra heat, road salt, and significantly more road maintenance for living in Minnesota. Oh wait, we only bail out the wealthy who build condos in the likely path of increasingly frequent hurricanes? It’s a good thing we contribute more dollars to the feds than we get back, otherwise Floridians might actually need to pay for living where they live like the rest of us.
PS: Not advocating we abandon all who get hit by a disaster, but their has to be a way to balance federal contribution given these “once in a generation freak occurrences” are likely to happen a hell of a lot more. Don’t build in high risk areas and expect a handout.
Florida Man Hates Federal Aid, Needs Federal Aid
Like SpongeBob with the glass of water…. “I don’t need it…. I don’t need it…. I NEEEEEEED IT!!!”
My hometown was destroyed by Sandy. Homes were destroyed and my neighbors, including my grandparents, left. I should have evacuated. Flordia needs a new governor.
~Florida’s Republicans~ Red states have a complicated relationship with disaster aid.
“Give me mine and fuck everyone else” is selfish and abusive, not complicated.
“Thinking of others’ needs is socialism.”
“Yes. Yes, it is.”
They need to start the florida evac scheme already to just evacuate everyone still sane from that shitehole
Any help should be predicated on immutable, legal obligations to adopt/confirm policies that help working class people.
And ensure all people of all gender identities are treated equally
