Continuing it through sentencing seemed punitive, but extending it beyond the conclusion of any pending appeals makes sense and seems perfectly fair.

Sentencing is part of the trial. Until that’s done the trial is not over.
It should be extended beyond sentencing until any appeals have been concluded.
