Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Wednesday that bans homeless people from setting up tents or sleeping in public spaces, as he compared the issue of homelessness to the chaos of spring break.

So let me get this straight, if I, living in Florida, ever found a fire ant free spot to lay down and relax in a park, I’ll be harassed by cops now? Or is this just for the “shittier” neighborhoods? What about people at the beach?

The current governor and Florida legislature are a bunch of mean spirited bigoted buffoons.

Probably would depend on the color of your skin…

This is just another attempt to harass people they don’t like.

No, it’s worse. If you go sunbathing on the beach and fall asleep, you’re a criminal.

This is for the ‘good’ neighborhoods. They’ll be where enforcement happens, and it will be selective.

I think most people know laws like this are worded specifically to be selectively enforced so whichever group is their 30 min hate target of the month is subjugated and fucked with for being an outsider. You can’t legislate away homelessness unless forcing vacant owners to honor section 8 & affordable housing vouchers.

The goal of this bill is to make it for police to be able to legally harass the homeless. The hope is that if they harass them enough they’ll move to another state and then the government won’t have to deal with it anymore.

In my home state they also use this bill to quell protests. That was the main drive here, to ensure politically active (for the wrong side) could have a felony and lose their right to vote.

RTFA. The bill requires municipalities to provide encampments.

You know, so they can concentrate people somewhere. In a centralized camp.

I can already imagine razor wire fencing and a watchtower or two around these public “encampments” soon, you know, for their “safety”.

RTFA. The bill requires municipalities to provide encampments.

And provides funding for the municipalities to create said encampments, right? Surely it doesn’t require those blue Demonrat controlled cities municipalities to fund such encampments on their own, right?

That’s one way of the govt providing housing. It’s the most expensive and stupidest way, but still.

Let’s see: biology demands humans sleep every day, and not always voluntarily. Yep, we should criminalize that.

Also, let’s criminalize public eating, drinking, and breathing unless you have a house.

What the actual hell??? Last week, I had clients across from Naples to Bradenton, so i woke up at 4am and started doing jobs. Made it up to Bradenton at 10am and the last client wanted to wait til 2pm to do the job

As a result i chilled, enjoyed a nice lunch, checked out the boardwalk, and after 1.5 hrs of enjoying the place, I entered my car exhausted, set an alarm to 1:30pm, and fell asleep.

You’re telling me that THIS NAP I TOOK WOULD BE ILLEGAL?!?!?!

Yes, and I have been hassled for it (not in Florida). Small town cops are the worst by far. I imagine if you have a nice car you might slip by though.

Or they can arrest you for loitering or some b.s. and impound the car. Then maybe let you go with no charges after 48 hours, but youe car is still impounded and you pay 2,000 to get it out or cops can seize and auction it off. Welcome to the USA

Some municipalities may charge you with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The reason is that you clearly had the means to operate the vehicle and you did not seem to be alert while observed.

So next steps are to round up the homeless and put them into “work camps” of some sort? I’ve seen this somewhere…
