  • I’d expect the same out of a machine I might potentially have to, say, deliver a pregnant wife to the hospital in.

lol first thing I thought of too. I’ve been in emergency situations where I needed to get to a hospital immediately and if my car did this I’d be fucking livid. As dangerous as motorcycles are at least I know that mine will never fail a software update or some shit, and if it doesn’t start I can just bump start it to get it going and then figure out what’s wrong later.

I’m no luddite but there’s beauty in a machine that’s designed to be as simple to operate and maintain as possible

  • maybe it’s because I’m an old geezer compared to the average twitch viewer but I honestly don’t understand the appeal of these streamers. It must be some kind of parasocial thing

and every once in a while I’ll see a clip where some popular streamer is talking, little “donation” messages show up on the screen and I’m reminded that people who are presumably much less wealthy than the streamer routinely donate money to them and it just breaks my brain

  • when I was a lib I used to like The Daily Show because it was kinda cathartic to watch them mock conservatives.

However I remember one episode where they were covering a story about students at Berkeley protesting the marines opening up a recruiting office on campus, and basically the entire segment was them shitting on these kids. The students were anti-war and didn’t want the US military recruiting future killers on their campus. The Daily Show even had their news correspondent Rob Riggle (retired marine) interviewing students and trapping them in ridiculous “gotchas” to make them look dumb. It was one of the first moments as a baby leftist where I was like “wait… why are they doing this? those kids are right to not want the military at their school.” And watching this thickneck piece of shit Riggle bully young people who obviously don’t know enough to “debate” him while a camera is shoved in their face was infuriating.

Then later I watched Stewart perform at USO shows in Iraq and Afghanistan (among other places) to entertain these imperialist tools and I just lost any shred of respect I still had for him. He even had that awful “Rally to Restore Sanity” event in D.C. which was effectively a giant centrist circlejerk that accomplished absolutely nothing. I haven’t even paid attention to anything he’s done since but I’m not the least bit surprised that he’s still a dipshit.

  • This hits kind of close to home for me. Without giving too many details, I was in a pretty serious traffic accident some years ago and my mom thankfully took time off work to be with me in the hospital room so I wouldn’t be alone. About a week into my stay her boss (who knew about the accident) started nagging her about how long she was going to be out because “work was piling up” so she had to start bringing an ipad with her to the hospital so she could still work while she was there. Just one reason in the giant pile of reasons I fucking hate this country.

  • Honestly it’s not just men, it’s every Tesla driver. I live near the edge of a pretty wealthy neighborhood where probably 1/3 of the residents own a Tesla. I ride to work on a motorcycle, and when I lane split (legal in my state) I’m constantly almost getting hit by these fucking things. I routinely have people see me in their side mirror (yes, motorcyclists can see you looking at them) and they’ll purposely veer towards the next lane to “squeeze” the gap and prevent me from passing. About 70% of the time it’s a Tesla. They are quickly surpassing BMWs as my most hated car on the road.

  • I have a friend who was mostly normal until a few years ago when he took a hard right turn. His girlfriend’s family is very wealthy (they own a mansion) and he moved into it during the pandemic so I think he basically spent the last few years having rich chuds pushing him in that direction. He also listens to joe rogan 🤮.

We have a group chat where he and a few other people (I wouldn’t call them friends but I know them) talk about ukraine and it’s as insufferable as you can probably imagine. The rest of my friends are mostly “apolitical.”

As for my family members, most are somewhat well-intentioned liberals. Two others are conservative (both former military members, naturally) and one of my cousins refuses to get the covid vaccine because she thinks it’s some kind of mind control serum or something. So, the usual.
