For the longest time I thought people who had solar panels had a battery on their property somewhere, they’re panels would charge battery and they would only switch to the grid if their battery ran out.
I don’t know much about it, but this seems like a pretty viable solution and I still can’t believe this isn’t how it works.
The top crack and the little stairstep pattern crack following below it were my main concern. I’ve just always hear to watch out for the stair pattern and when I saw the big gap I panicked a little.

At my job we’re expected to at least try to be available if needed after hours which in my 3 years here has happened once and it took about 30 minute and I waited until my son went to bed for the night.
In return we get to leave for doctors appointments, picking up kids, errands etc without having to use PTO or make up the time. It’s a pretty sweet deal for the developers and no one abuses it to much.
At my old job they tried to get us to work after hours pretty frequently for a fraction of what our hourly rate was, we were salaried but when you broke it down you’d be getting like $20 an hour instead of $50. Ridiculous and almost no one did it.
Is this the case? I don’t feel like I’ve ever had to install Perl but I’ve had to install Python plenty of times and I use both pretty frequently on a daily basis. Not to mention a newer version, older version, 2.7.4 instead of 2.7.3.
I used to love these. I always wanted to be the last one running. One year another kid and I ran so long the bell rang so we ran some more and got to skip the next period all together.
Funny enough my wife is a wedding photographer, I shoot with her a few times a year and absolutely hate it. She can’t imagine doing anything else but if it wasn’t my wife you couldn’t pay me enough to do it more than once a year.
The second hand gear is the way to go though, she got some Sony camera a while back that cost like 2k new for around 900 because it had a small scratch on the body and one of the metal things that hold the thing on was loose. We ordered a new metal thingy and with a couple screws it was practically new.
Oh man I put so much time into my garden this year, planted so many vegetables, started a bunch indoors on a nice indoor greenhouse I set up with one of those rolling shelves. I was basically ready to feed my whole family from the garden…
So far I’ve got a whopping 3 bell peppers, 6 tomatoes and one tiny baby squash that’s starting to grow.
Granted we had a very hot summer that I wasn’t prepared for and even watering 3 times a day a lot of my stuff just burnt, plus the ravenous squirells that ate every seedling I put out.
But I’ll do it all again next year because it was a blast.
Exactly this. Woodworking, gardening, working out, macrame, knitting, eating, making spices, building robots.
For a while I felt bad about all the stuff I learned and didn’t keep up with but at a certain point I just accepted that most of the hobbies I pick up won’t last long and it’s been great since then.
Genuine question.
What can I, an average Joe, do about global warming?
I compost, grow a lot of my own food, recycle, avoid plastic as much as possible, built a little solar system along my fence that powers probably 20% of the house.
I feel like I do a lot more than the average person and still know it’s not enough. Even if every consumer did their part would it be enough to counteract the pollution from the conglomerates? It doesn’t feel like it.

I have used Flex launcher on a mini PC, it seemed like a good option but I got busy before I could even half set it up.
In school I would calculate exactly what I would need to do to just pass. I’ve always loved learning but didn’t care for basically everything about the schools I was in. Which brought a storm of shit from my teachers and grandma.
No one appreciated the effort of calculating how many questions need to be answered on a test in order to bring your grade to a 74%. Sure it would’ve been easier to just do the thing, but they didn’t make it fun and it didn’t matter.
Yeah, I get the sentiment that you can’t avoid bugs and I think to an extent they are inevitable at a certain point. But something like this is just negligence.
My company isn’t medical or anything life threatening if something goes wrong, but a bug could cost someone a nice heap of money, in turn costing us a nice heap of money. So we have a rule to treat and test our software as if it were used in the medical industry. Although it seems like we should be aiming for a higher standard at this point.
You could always just boot up a windows VM and set up a shared folder to code on Linux/test on windows if your application has issues running on Linux.
One concert I went to that didn’t let you bring water in ended up getting shut down because the only water available was bathroom sink water or tap water in a plastic cup for $8. And they didn’t let you bring your plastic cups into the bathroom to refill them.
Probably about a third of the people there had to leave from passing out/dehydration and a bunch left in ambulances. And this was a concert where probably 90% of the people there were on drugs, which in my eyes makes the whole water situation even more irresponsible.
So legal, yeah probably, but also entirely fucked.
I’ve noticed that I get the same amount of work done working 5 days a week as if I plan to only work 3/4 days and know I’ll have some free time to enjoy life. My work is really project based so as long as it gets done no one cares.
My wife has also noticed that I’m a lot more stressed when I work 5 days a week and need pretty much the whole weekend to recover.
I don’t see how this could be legal at all and how any of those terms could be applicable. My 2 year old found the remote today and he loves buttons, so naturally he pushed every button on there. I thought nothing of it but saw something pop up and then disappear, I assumed it was an error or something from the button mashing, but I guess my 2 year old agreed to rokus new TOS.
It’s the acme brand plain white loaf, it’s probably been about 6 months since I went in the bread isle but that bread is horrible by the time you buy it, at least at my store, and really only good for toast.
When we were buying bread we would buy something with family in the name? Which was the next cheapest one at around $4-5 for a plain white loaf.
I got a new job that came with a 25k raise last year and the only reason we can afford to eat 3 good meals a day is we started a garden where a lot of our food comes from and I started making most things from scratch, doughs, jam, oat milk, next is peanut butter.
The cheapest loaf of shitty bread at the closest store is $3. At the next closest store 40 minutes away it’s $2.50. What the fuck happened to $1 store brand bread that was fine enough and not almost rock hard by the time you get it.
I see stories like this a lot and can’t believe it. My wife was in a similar situation and had to get an emergency dnc, and still came close to dying from sepsis.
The doctors were so on it, we waited in the ER for a while because they were packed but as soon as they took her blood and realized what was going on she was in surgery within the hour.
Our son want even 2 at the time. If we were 30 minutes west she would’ve died. It’s absolutely fucking wild.
How could anyone think this is right?
