Well that’s why you read the article :). I was just trying to showcase that

I’m guessing (without reading) there was a lot of luck there, like no rough seas. We all float better in salt water but 37 hours floating/treading water is impressive regardless of the conditions.
That has been on my radar for a while. I haven’t checked it out recently. I’m sure YNAB4 will die sometime in the future, but I’m going to milk it out to the end :). There’s already a hack for android (for dropbox syncing) and hoops to jump through to get it working in MacOs. It’s just a matter of time before the house of cards falls apart.
There are a few pieces of software I use (regularly) that would continue to get money from me if they followed the old model of paying for major versions. (pay for v1, get v 1.1-1.9) with v2 being the next “big” update that you’d have to pay an upgrade fee (smaller than a new purchase) to continue on the train.
But they switched to subscription model, and lost me as an “active” customer.
YNAB is the big one I use at least weekly, sometimes daily. I am on YNAB4 until it will no longer function because I’m not paying them a monthly fee to use that product. I would have GLADLY paid for major updates/changes even if it equaled the subscription in the end. But each of those purchases would be a decision I made on whether the change had enough value for me.
Subscriptions allow them to not strive for large enough improvements to warrant a version update / upgrade fee. They just run along with little or no useful changes (IMHO).
There’s a “spinning” draw bridge that goes onto Gwynn’s Island in Virginia that they have to do this to. Not sure how new of a phenomenon that is but it’s been at least a few years now.
Not the same traffic backup as NYC, but crazy still.
in BI, for each camera I have the following set under settings/alerts/on alerts
Didn’t get home til late last night… Looking at my automation. If you’ve successfully connected (via mqtt) and validated in explorer. my automation to trigger a notification on motion is quite simple.
I get alerts from BI Motion in HA (via mqtt)… I’ll look at it a bit to jog my memory and see if I can give any tips. It’ll likely be tomorrow or so as I’m traveling today
I had a humidity switch in ours a while ago (not smart) and it would turn on too much even if a shower wasn’t running but our windows were open. And, enough humidity was in the air. So that didn’t work out great.
It was a self contained deal not a smart switch though
I’m no facebook fanboy by any measure. I miss Forums, but everyone moved to FB groups. (at least 90% of the people/content). I am on FB, I manage my FB feed. I unfollow/unfriend “crackheads” as someone else called them. I only follow people that mainly post their own content, not forward shit, or post news etc.
I was mainly there to share public “stuff” with my remote family (both parents were 300-600 miles from us) and we had a young child (both parents first grandchild).
I now mainly use FB for groups of my interest, because that’s where the people are. I also sell stuff on FB market place, because craigslist is a ghost town.
Between managing my feed/friends, using ‘social fixer’ browser extension and Pihole I rarely see ads on there. Certainly not on my PC. The the App can sneak in some, but I hide/report any ad I see.
It works for me. I don’t live on there by any means but go there for interest groups.
I’m not sure if I’ve tried doing any PTZ stuff, but all the other settings for sure. The cameras I have all have SD cards so you could manage everything right from the UI and just have it record locally.
They want to connect to the mothership and destroy log files trying to get there.
All of the Amcrest “management” I do is within blue iris. I have a ptz IP4M-1041B but do not do any ptz stuff via HA. I use blue iris to send stream/alerts to HA via MQTT. This allows me to do notifications on motion. I would assume if you have location presets setup in BI you could call them from HA but that’s a guess.
I messed around with presets (camera location) in blue iris a bit bit didn’t have a real use case for it so I am not sure how robust it is.
I block internet access to all Amcrest cameras directly but can still access their local IP. I have access to my cameras again via blue iris which runs on a dedicated windows machine.
Been using enbrighten switches from Jasco. I use their Zwave but I think they have ZigBee too.
I use the ones that look like toggle switches over the paddle style to match the rest of the house .
I have them on all our bathroom fans too so they can be left on (steam / smell disposal) and auto shut off after 30 min.
You would think nearly half the voting population would agree and not support those that do. But here we are. Boggles the mind.
I was more aminable when I was paying $14.99 for YT Red Family plan. At $23/mo it’s pretty expensive and I want new features/controls for that money
Ya, just an infrastructure where their ads have to go into blocks within the video (inserted wherever but tagged as such)
Generally an Unpopular opinion, but I think this should include creator ads (or at least an option per creator to support them by turning on their own ads).
Defaulted to off , I don’t want to watch a random videos AG1 ad. That said there are a couple creators I watch I would be willing to enable theirs strictly to support them.
Because if I’m paying for ad removal it should be complete ad removal.
Whether true or not there are back doors , as there will always be no matter where it’s hosted. Unless we got access to the full source code .
But a “kill switch” doesn’t address the issue. I mean while it’s “killed” it does but whenever it’s not, the data privacy concerns are in full swing.
I was thinking the same thing
