It’s like we’re being invaded, but it’s by corporations instead of an army.

Can we stop commenting this on every single political post? It just implies that the behavior in the article should be treated as normal by now. It’s not normal, no matter how common the media makes it seem.
I’m sure the average person is totally capable of doing that, or even knowing about it /s. Jfc.
Why is it that whenever a corporation loses or otherwise leaks sensitive user data that was their responsibility to keep private, all of Lemmy comes out to comment about how it’s the users who are idiots?
Except it’s never just about that. Every comment has to make it known that they would never allow that to happen to them because they’re super smart. It’s honestly one of the most self-righteous, tone deaf takes I see on here.
I’ve been surprised and super disappointed by a lot of the views I’ve been seeing in Lemmy comments lately. Anti homeless, judging addiction, fairly socially conservative, buying into the whole retail theft narrative, and the worst has been the misogyny framed as “realism” or some shit.
I don’t know, it’s not for me.
Instead, it is their sense of self-entitlement that is causing the problem
Comments like this have always sounded so much more entitled to me than a worker expecting a paycheck. Boomers and C suites bitching about their employees’ desire to adequately support themselves on their wages doesn’t strike you as being just a little entitled?
No, no one is fully ok with it. This entire thread is like the emperor’s new clothes or something.
And yet every other comment on this post is “just have confidence; change how you act and look and you’ll stop being rejected.”
It’s so silly to keep acting like attractiveness has zero to do with dating and likeability. Especially when there are permanent issues that are genetic or medical or whatever that go beyond “get a haircut and buy new clothes.” American society is super judgemental in general when it comes to appearance and aging (especially toward women), and identity. It gets much worse in the dating scene, especially now that it’s so frequently based on swiping left or right on a single photo and you’re competing with filters. Yes, there’s always the possibility of finding a group of people or a person that you fit in with, and you should always put work into finding that (if that’s something you want - not everyone wants to be paired off) but let’s stop throwing realism completely out the window ffs.

Would expect nothing less from an MA program.
Except you know they’ll just turn around and go “ThIs HaPPeNeD uNdEr BiDeN!”

While I agree for the most part, you don’t think that maybe in this case it’s because:
It involves Munchausen’s by proxy which is a pretty rare diagnosis,
She endured years of horrific medical, mental and physical abuse by the mother which brings up some serious moral questions in terms of what else she could have done to escape,
She didn’t actually commit the murder, it was the boyfriend she met online who is intellectually disabled and is now serving a life sentence.
Idk, that sounds like enough to make a headline without her gender or skin color brought into it.
If you chose to live in a small and isolated down,
And then on any post about housing prices, all you see are comments like “well you chose to live in an urban area!! If you liberals would just move to rural Alabama you could afford your rent!1!” So which is it?
Then I get downvoted for saying there’s a million reasons people can’t just up and move, including a lack of jobs and other resources in rural areas. Besides, a majority of people don’t necessarily choose where they live. There are countless socioeconomic circumstances that dictate that.
It’s just proof that people continue to fall for placing the blame on one another when it should really be directed straight upwards.
If you actually want cheap shitty pizza, then at least go to Little Caesars and only pay $5 for it
I’m pretty sure they don’t get paid anywhere near what they’re worth. Same old story in the US: anything that’s important to society, has to do with people’s health, safety, education, and so on.
What alternative would you propose for providing loans?
Making things affordable (or just priced within reason) if they are considered a necessity to live in society.
Yes, there are survival necessities ie. food, water, shelter. But in modern society, we can add Internet, phone, car (depending on where you live) or bus pass etc, and probably tuition for at least a bachelor’s degree.
If you want to buy a boat or some shit, then sure, you should have to take out a loan.
Did I mention trump anywhere in my comment?
No one said you did.
interpret all criticism of Biden as support for Trump
When you don’t vote, therefore allowing Trump to win the election…then yeah.
Equating the above with “all criticism” is what’s dishonest. Plenty of people criticize Biden who voted for him once, and they are still voting for him again. But you know that. We might not like him but believe it or not, we dislike fascism even more. Crazy, I know.
They didn’t say “any young people.”
They pointed out that 18-29 year olds have historically had the lowest voter turnout of any group. It was higher in 2020 than in the previous election year, but overall, not many young people vote. Hyperbole sucks.

The parasocial relationship thing is just fuel to the fire. It may not be the cause, but that doesn’t make it any less dangerous. Angry right wing conspiracy talk is like bait for people with these kinds of mental health concerns. It won’t turn just anyone violent, but it obviously has served as the breaking point for a lot of people.
