I…don’t get it. This is an old way to help a child that has something stuck in their throat. I mean, the heimlich maneuver was first described in 1974, so I guess this WAS in fact the best technique at the time. Keeping someone from suffocating is kind of important, and this seems like something you can do fast and easy (at least with a relatively small person).

Their concern is not solely based on the gene modification. The impact of introducing a new crop is bigger than that. The golden rice is patented and that often comes with a ton of regulations the local farmers have no control over.

While I wish for there to be a good way to solve the food problem AND find a good use for gene modification, I don’t think that this particular instance is it…

This is a rule to protect themselves. If there is ever a case around this, they can push the blame to the person that committed the code for breaking that rule.

Addiction is not something you can control. In a way she was sick and there is not very much she could have done. Sure, “don’t take drugs while pregnant” or “don’t get pregnant while being an addict” sound like obvious things, but drugs can cloud your judgement.

And that is before you even think about what constitutes as a “someone”. I don’t even want to start the discussion on it, but there IS the question of when a fetus counts as another life/person.

Clonezilla is the tool I use after all else has failed. I agree that it is difficult to use, but it can do things others can’t. I saved quite a few of my drives with this thing. So while I try to avoid having to use it, it still belongs in my toolkit.

What I was after was having a switch just like the one shown in the screenshot as a card in the Dashboard. All I can add is a button that changes the color. I know I can YAML it, but it still feels weird that an obvious nice solution is not readily available.

Many plagues were caused by lack of basic hygiene. Of course I wouldn’t want to miss modern medicine, but living back then with a lot less people around and equipped with todays knowledge would actually be pretty neat.

…but not with my teeth…i would have probably died already if not for modern ways of dealing with tooth-aches…

But also is cross-immunisation. So…one could have had something other than Covid-19 and still be immune to it. Then there are also the genetic outliers that are just naturally immune to the attack-vector of the virus.
