That’s very cool! Chemistry was always my most difficult subject (biology major). We use acetanilide at work as standard reference material for stable isotope analysis of particulate organic matter (e.g., phytoplankton/marine snow), basically as a quality check since it has similar carbon and nitrogen signatures. Always excited to learn interesting science facts! :)
This is excellent advice actually! My first instinct after getting it on my skin was to wash it off with soap and water, and learned afterwards that water causes it to cure faster. So it would make sense to dampen the wood to get it to stick better
Totally random and off-topic, but I like your username. Was literally looking up how potentially toxic acetanilide is the other day when we received a small shipment of it at work. Do you have a fun origin story for your username or any fun facts about the substance?
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR INTENT!
It’s funny because we were trying to get it to stick to wood, which it didn’t seem to stick to that well
Your hair looks awesome btw!! I hope you are living your best life <3
Orangutans are solitary for most of their lives
And he’s not even anatomically correct!
Look up slime molds. Suuuuper interesting stuff, they are often regarded as an early model of evolution from single-celled to multi-celled organisms
Came here to ask the same question. Are the pods more effective (aka quicker/less traumatic) or do they have the same results?
Also another fun fact: not all tardigrades are capable of going into the tun state. For example, aquatic tardigrades that live in freshwater streams can form what is called a summer egg, which allows them to survive hot and potentially dry conditions, but I don’t believe much has been studied on this alternative state. IIRC marine tardigrades also cannot achieve the tun state, so this really only applies to terrestrial* tardigrades.
*Terrestrial tardigrades are also sometimes referred to as aquatic tardigrades as they are only active (not in the tun state) in the presence of water (e.g., after it rains)
My heart goes out to you and I’ve seen this happen to my friends cat before. If I’m not mistaken, it’s almost exclusively male cats that are affected due to their urethral anatomy and stress tends to cause the onset of the inflammation. It is very life threatening without treatment, but the cat will live a normal healthy life after the surgery otherwise. You did the right thing taking your baby to the vet right away and saved his life, I hope you get the help and support you need to help him with this procedure ❤️
Was also going to comment that song!
