  • I see myself in this picture, and I don’t like it 😂😂😂 that’s why I’m running 2 pi’s 😁 photoprism, pihole, pivpn, unbound, portainer, and multiple HDD setup with cron jobs as a nas, and another pi with heimdal, pihole, pivpn. Unify controller, NUT server… Prob forgetting some lpl, Looking to add a lot more docker containers… So ya… This meme got me in the feels lol

  • Depending on how far down the rabbit hole, or how deep your pockets are… I started off slowly degoogling. Now have replacements for everything… Run grapheneos on pixel6. Yes. Google phone with graphene is your most private and secure route…who would have thought… Banking apps all work, NFC, etc. Can even have a work profile or separate user and sandboxes play services if still need play services for any apps you reply need

  • This was one of my last de-googling projects, I currently self hosting photoprism, I have syncthing that syncs my photos to a network attached storage…at 3am it copies those pictures to a permanent location (I do 3am because during the day if you want to delete any photos etc. Before it syncs with photoprism… At 4am my nas backs up to another nas (they are just a few portable HD for redundancy) photoprism works great for me, not as powerful as say Google photos, but close 2nd for me… And for accessing the photos when not at home, have setup wireguard VPN for away from home access… I see you want automatic deletion of the photos on your phone, I’d say you be able to run a CRON job that maybe every day (if you have made sure that your pictures are for sure being backed up in the middle of the night, that would automatically delete your dcim pictures folder… I also run graphene, I’ll give it a try and let you know if it works

P.s. my NAS drives are connected to a raspberry pi

  • Now where do I start lol, I’ve been on this journey for a few years, and I’d say, take it one service at a time!! I’ll try and list most of my apps/services etc.

    Phone running grapheneos

Browser - vanadium (graphenes hardened browser)

    Maps - organic maps

    Mail - protonmai

    Calender - protonmail

    Notes - standard notes

    YouTube - newpipe

    App store -F-Droid

    Messaging - signal and threema

    File sync - syncthing

    Password managing - bitwarden

    Gallery - simple gallery

    Camera - stock grapheneos camera

Ad blocking - 2 piholes setup

And one of the hardest was google photos… Overcame that with self hosting photoprism… I have syncthing sync my camera roll to a hard drive attached to one of my raspberry pi… 3am it rsyncs to a permanent location, than rsync to another hard drive, than have a script that adds it to the photoprism library an hour later, sounds hectic but perfect once setup…

And if you want to go even deeper and not use google or any other provider as your DNS, if you have a pi or any other computer running 24/7 can run your own recursive DNS resolver with unbound… Hope this helps some people, may have missed a few 😂
