Exactly! Any good interview I’ve had also involved asking me about my expectations. The job I ended up accepting (but haven’t started yet) won me over with that as well as actually talking about work life boundaries

Almost had one of those multi hour rounds of interviews and assessments while looking for a better job. I’m well qualified in my field and already had a few options when this particular company reached out. I agreed to an interview and they sent me multiple insanely long forms which already had my radar going.

Then I log into the virtual interview and there’s multiple applicants. Weird again. Interviewer says we need to wait for other applicants, takes more than half an hour… Waste of my time but I had set aside an hour in my schedule for this, annoying but acceptable. THEN the interviewer says to be ready for this to take up to 4 hours and that we will be doing live, digital assessments. I logged out without saying anything.

The company reached out to me later saying I was a top candidate based on my CV and wanted me to do the full interview on another day. I should have been up front and told them their process was fucking insane but instead I just told them I was no longer interested in the position.

IIRC, that was part of the deal buying this and part of what made it so expensive and unique. News article at the time talked at length about the secrecy aspect. Kinda dumb IMO but I understand a super fan wanting to own something like this. The fact that this A hole bought it instead then immediately broke contract…

I’m all for paying developers when the product is good. Boost was recommended to me by someone I trust, and I believe the controversial permissions were addressed by the developer saying it was boiler plate stuff for the ad service they were using, so I have no problems recommending it at the price they’re offering for ad free

I know people like the FOSS apps like Jerboa, but I wasn’t into the interface. I heard there were big changes since I tried it though so maybe it’s good now.

That said, Boost is my daily driver. Was happy with the Reddit version so I paid for the ad free Lemmy version too. Everything works and it’s all smooth and intuitive (to me at least).

I also tried Sync and I do think it’s nicer than Boost but WAY more expensive to go ad free.

Crypto - Meh, I have digital banking and payment processing already, with easy enough international transfers. I’m good.

Good. Unfortunately it feels like far too little, far too late, and reading the article maybe only a one off thing for a particular shipment. Wondering if the article is just trying to paint the US as pushing back against the Israeli government without actually doing anything substantive.

I was always on the big brother side of this. My favorite was when my younger brother suddenly remembered they had to build a model of an imaginary animal and write a report on it the night before the due date. We stayed up while I built a model out of paper with a K’Nex skeleton and we talked about the stuff that he could write about it.
