You’re not wrong but I don’t see what that has to do with my point, which was - don’t blame distros for this. They can influence the conversation but not control it. If you find what you want isn’t supported then pick something that supports most things like Ubuntu, or Nobara.

Driver support is down to the manufacturer. Distros can’t give you things that don’t exist.

What I’m saying is I don’t notice that. Most of the people I see getting honours are regular folks. There’s a few toffs in there and the rest are people who genuinely did something, and they come from all walks.

Many sportspeople are knighted (Dameified?). Service to community for regular folks also gets honours for those who stand out. At least in the wider commonwealth this has been true for all my life and my parents too. Look up Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Bobby Robson, etc. There’s a lot of orders of knights who are appointed solely at the discretion of the monarch in there but those specific orders are usually related to the functional aspects of the monarchy. I’m thinking specifically of the orders of the Garter and Thistle here. Generally, at least in Elizabeth’s reign the majority of honours I’ve seen have been for service to the community, arts, sports etc. and the person has genuinely been involved.

Is linking a Rick roll a meme? I thought memes were reused images with text, guessing the definition is shifting. I saw someone calling numa numa a meme the other day.

I mean, it’s still just a bait and switch. I never really got why doing it with Rick Astley was groundbreaking.

It was over ICQ, IRC or msn messenger back when all I had was dialup. A lot of modern internet culture seems to be appropriated from the kind of old web ne’er-do-wells I hung out with on IRC back in the day. Didn’t think to keep records tbh. The original ‘rickroll’ was goatse or lemon party (nsfw, tbh I would not google those if you don’t know what they are).

I do remember getting Rick rolled with Never gonna give you up by a counter strike clan team member over ventrilo back in 2005. It must be 2004-05 because the clan I was in disbanded after Oct. 2005.

I was def getting Rick rolled before that.
