Oh man yes. It was replaced by TotalCommander. Up to this day it’s still the first task to open upon startup and it’s allways there.

Made me think of DesqView too. Awwww.

And fork you! Now I feel old 😔

DV was a real gamechanger back then. Real multitasking way before windows did it.

Never had breadbox but reminded me of geos now. Or ibms os/2. Sweet memories

Ohhh yesss, I’ve been scratching a nostalgia itch recently too with turbo, tilde and mc. I’ll absolutely try these, looks awesome! Maybe some fitting hardware would be cool too, like finally getting something with risc-v, a nice clickety-clacky keyboard and an epaper screen…

Yep! I’ve always dreamt about a purely functional environment like this (like in the dos days). I’m so happy it’s possible on Linux now

Edit: woah, an epaper screen was exactly the same idea as I had! I’ve been thinking of making a small cyberdeck with a RPi Zero, epaper screen, this as the sole shell, and a single composite video cable for an external screen connection (pinout still exists on the RPi). You can even get black+red screens which would be cool for highlighting bits of the UI. I’m just waiting for the price to come down atm.

I’ve also been trying to write some apps for this environment, the problem is that I’d like to write them in Rust and I’ve been having trouble generating bindings for the TUI library, which is written in C++
