U.S. airline efforts to address climate change were eclipsed by those of European airlines last year, but even the Europeans aren't making a dent because of the increase in air travel.

The shift to sustainable aviation fuel is still minuscule, while growth in passenger air travel is drowning out any climate gains so far. For example, despite IAG’s world-leading status, cleaner fuel accounted for only about 1.9% of its overall fuel consumption last year, and its emissions from fuel combustion still rose by 5%.

    So, without the shift in fuel the emissions would be 2% higher? Why is that not a good thing?

    Yes, we want total emissions lower, but without the efuel emissions would have been even higher.
