At this stage the whole Lemmy project feels like a CIA experiment, part of some as-of-yet unknown group of experiments / operation given a vague name. All the content is on the extremist-side, enforces attitudes perfect to embolden class wars and young people (no doubt the majority of people here) aren’t worldly enough to know the difference. It’s full of AI-generated political memes and comments.

Where’s the trove of knowledge? The awesome positive hobbies? If it’s around, it’s all drown out by the manipulative noise.

This could be easily fixed in the coding of Lemmy, but… it hasn’t.

I’m becoming very di-senlightened by Lemmy, Let the abuse and downvotes ensue.

Imagine thinking Lemmy is propagandizing people into these beliefs and not just the one platform that’s not relentlessly shoving the capitalist boot down everyone’s throat and allowing for semi-genuine conversation like you rarely see in corpo social media.

Like, sure, it’s Lemmy that’s pushing the narrative of class warfare and no other platform has that kind of talk but hidden by mod abuse. Nope, just Lemmy, clearly.

Maybe this is a selfawarewolf post…

If your feed has lots of ai i would also recommend blocking some posters, though in my experience lemmy has way more anti ai and downvoting of annything ai then whatever is left of the mainstream networks.

Another recomendation is to join a smaller instance you align with, you will have a much better experience.

Yes we do go rather hard left. Especially when it comes to the only war that counts, the class war, ruling elites versus the exploited masses. Its part of what makes this place so refreshing because corporate media heavily dislikes the need for global change. Causing people that agree to flock here.

And yes you can easily get radicalized here, another thing which is refreshing is how up front and not secretive people are about the fact we do alot of self propaganda for our personal flavor of ideals. After all lemmy is not for children (suprisingly many older people) you have to form your own opinions and people tend to be (on average) more respectfull towards diversity in idealogy. You don’t get insta downvoted as much as you get honest replies of someone wanting to discuss it.

This is a case of being the change you want to see in the world. The fediverse contains content you subscribe to or create. It’s trivial to block content you don’t want to see. It’s still small enough that you can effect visible change on it. And if you’re not seeing content you want to see, are able to post that content.

Not that I entirely disagree, but…

This could be easily fixed in the coding of Lemmy, but… it hasn’t.

I’m not sure how this could be fixed on the software level? Care to elaborate? Or even better, write up an issue + PR which proposes the “easy fix”.

Shit sorry, the CIA told me not to point outI forgot that all content already automatically carries the political flag if it contradicts OP’s political biases, and thus all we need to do is check for that and censor accordingly.

It isn’t that it contradicts any political biases. But, it’s like, ok, enough, we get it, yawn, now for positive stuff like hobbies, fun stuff, not the same whinging circle jerk over and over again.

Yeah, sorry, I was being a bit catty with that reply. But algorithmically identifying something as “whinging circle jerk” is really difficult unless you wanna throw away the baby with the bathwater. I think someone elsewhere in the thread recommended creating a second account just for the hobby communities, if you wanna avoid the political memery. If the hobby communities feel quiet, well, you have the power to change that by posting something there.

Don’t worry. As a little experiment, I’ve found time and time again across a whole range of social media sites over years, that having a username that some people could perceive as aggressive will get you blocked / banned faster than you would believe. The people of Lemmy are not as different/open as they think they are!

Unfortunately, when I open groups, I get called out that it should be merged with a sort-of-similar group, and then of course, empty groups are hard to start.

Having to take the effort to block all the politics in the first place mean 90% of people won’t do it and will get tied up with giving their asshole to each post rather than perhaps what they wanted to come here for in the first place. I believe that doesn’t create an overall diverse community. Sentiment analysis is an old and established form of ai that would be useful here.
