Can somebody sum up the benefits of a city run grocery store? I’m not trying to be combative it’s just an unfamiliar concept for me and I am curious.
No profit motive. Better pay and benefits for workers. City pension.
That makes sense. Two questions though:
- If the store is unprofitable where would the money come from?
- If the store is profitable, would the money be reinvested in the store or taken for other projects/services by the city?
I would say one of the main benefits would probably be the better access in less profitable areas that the other commenter mentioned.
And with no profit motive, you can have better access in less profitable neighborhoods.
New Yorkers please do this one thing we will forgive you if you just do this one thing for everyone
As someone native to the armpit of NY (long Island) I’m pretty sure we’re just going to elect Mr.Sexpest because he has name recognition and we have the memory span of dead amoebas…
Plus the MSM will just spend the entire election going: SOCIALIST!!! BE AFRAID! HE’S A SOCIALIST!!! AHHHHHH!!!
Im afraid youre probably right, but I’ve got my friends in New York joining his campaign to canvass for him and do outreach to get as close as we possibly can to winning this.
They said he would never get past 5% in the polls but now we’re talking about him directly competing with Cuomo for the nomination. If this momentum keeps building I believe that if people knew who Zohran was and what his policies are they would vote for him without hesitation.
The real hurdle is convincing people that they’re safe in giving their vote to someone outside of the democratic party. The bots on here and I’m sure everywhere are peeling their skin off trying to beg people not to think about voting for anyone who isn’t a Democrat.
As long as people get the truth, its not a question of who people WANT to vote for, its whether they’d get up and go to the polls for the chance to keep Cuomo out of the race. Most believe they have no choice so they just dont care, that’s what the campaign is trying to fight against. They’ve proven they have momentum and now they’re building mainstream recognition. Im still keeping faith that the people in new york want MORE than fucking Eric adams and they won’t allow Cuomo to come back and get a free pass for all the shit he pulled as governor. Thanks for the insights from a real new yorker lol
In related news, here’s who he’s in second place to at the moment,

Make the world a better place.
As much of a good idea as this is, I’m not sure a NYC-centric local news has its place on [email protected]
As in, this really doesn’t matter for most of the world.
That’s fine because this isn’t a world news community
