As someone who had surgery here, it was definitely a process. I’m much happier with the end result than I was before the surgery, but they hype up their “world class post op care” which was about as helpful as an auto responder.
99% of the time the answer is the same, dismissing all concerns. It took months before I was referred to someone who could take care of my hyper granulation. Additionally their requirement of sending an image of the area through unencrypted email feels like it should be breaking some sort of privacy law.
Overall Canadians deserve more public options. From what I’ve heard from the nurses who treated my hyper granulation the Vancouver program sounds like a good alternative. Although I believe the surgeon only does that part time.
GRS Montréal does nothing to keep that monopoly they’re simply the only provider for that type of care in the province and the province doesn’t care enough about us to invest in a public solution. We’re a niche population with niche needs and so they believe it’s fine to handle us this way.
Was I treated well at GRS? Yeah. Did I wish I had options for such a life changing surgery? Absolutely. I would have chosen another type of surgery if it was available.
But in the end, to me, the main issue with trans care in Quebec is more about the blind spots in the coverage than the monopoly of GRS Mtl…
