    Bear with me:

    Suppose there was a concentration camp that was basically an involuntary hotel/spa. Where the guards waited on the internees like servants. Even then, the existence of Auschwitz or Bergen-Belsen with their incredible threat of violence would hang over every internee who might get transferred. Therefore even our imaginary pleasant concentration camp enforces order with violence.

    In the antebellum South, the phrase for this principal was being “sold down the river” where enslaved people who cause trouble were offloaded to worse conditions. So remember that if you ever hear about “kind” slavers.
