To be clear, I guess this saying applies more to production machinery rather than more complex machines like cranes with a ton of different levers. The lever on a welding press does one thing and you can’t make it do something else by pulling the lever. A crane can do a ton of stuff because it has lots of levers that do different things - you can even break the machine just by pulling the levers wrong.
On reading your original comment I realised you are right. It doesn’t matter who pulls the lever.
I’m just being a bit oversensitive about dangerous operation of machinery.
As a complete aside (not referring to Democrats etc) I’m pretty sure pulling levers affects how a machine operates.
