Skepticism is healthy, but it took me less than 30 seems seconds to find an answer. According to Forbes, they were “ID NOW” machines by Abbott Point of Care - so presumably V1 of this device.
I’m guessing it might be thermocyclers, I.e. PCR-machines.
You still need some consumables (esp. the proper primers), but the machine is entirely reusable.
However, it is also a fairly basic and it sounds unlikely that Putler had a lack of thermocyclers.
