New York court says Hollywood mogul, who remains in prison on other charges, did not receive a fair trial.

The New York Court of Appeals said prosecutors in the pivotal #MeToo case called witnesses whose accusations were not part of the charges against him.

The court said that meant he was unfairly tried for past behaviour, and ordered a new trial.

Weinstein was convicted in a separate rape case in LA. He remains in prison.

    Not really. The prosecutors incentive is to get high profile cases as wins, to build their career and move to the next position, or do an external law firm etc. It’s been 4 years since that case. They got their political capital out of it even if it gets overturned

      Douglas Wigdor, a lawyer who represented eight of Weinstein’s accusers, said the decision was “tragic” and “a major step back in holding those accountable for acts of sexual violence”.

      “Courts routinely admit evidence of other uncharged acts… the jury was instructed on the relevance of this testimony,” he added. “It will require the victims to endure yet another trial.”

      Honestly, it makes sense to me that a history of repeatedly committing a certain crime over the course of years or decades would make compelling circumstantial evidence that he committed the crime again
