Hello Everyone!

I finally finished The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Took about 90 hours, and still have a lot left to do, but wanted to find out the full story, so finished the main quest. I liked the story a lot more than BotW. If you have already finished it, what did you think about the story? (without giving away any spoilers). Going to keep playing this as my primary game for a while though, while also thinking about which game to start next.

Secondary games:

  • Finished Marvel’s Avengers. Nothing new to say about it. It could’ve been a very good game, if not for Live Service elements.
  • Almost finished Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. I am at stage 14, so just couple of them left. Will check the trophies after finishing the game and see if I want to platinum it. Only playing it with my kid, so going a bit slowly.
  • Started The Order 1886, it’s a very small games, 4-5 hours at most, but didn’t get much time to play after starting it, would try to finish it. The games holds up really well visually and gameplay vise.
  • I have committed to Monster Hunter: World now. Going to finish it, no matter how long it takes. Until now, I was only playing it with friends, but would try to do some optional stuff solo too, now that TotK is finished.

That’s all for now. What about all of you? What are you playing? And what do you plan to play next? And how are you enjoying them?

Congratulations in finishing Tears of the Kingdom! To me, the story was definitely an improvement from the first game, with more memorable and epic moments.

As for me, last week I broke down and got myself a Steam deck! I already installed several games to try out, with intention to give Ni No Kuni a real shot this time. Last time I played the game I dropped it after several hours because I found combat boring, let’s see if this time will be different.

On Nintendo Switch I am slowly getting through The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Currently I am on case 4 of the first game.

And lastly, on PS5, I am playing Forspoken. I finished main story last weekend, and right now I am just roaming the world and doing side activities.

      Thanks!

Steam deck is a great device, but I already have so many games to play, getting another “console” isn’t going to help with that. And since you also have PS5, take a look at Chiaki for SteamDeck, to remote play PS5 games. Learned about it from @[email protected] , our resident mod and creator of [email protected], you can ping him for any help related to that.

Ni No Kuni is a very fun game, played the first one PS3. A much better Pokémon game than some of the newer Pokémon game.

How are you liking The Great Ace Attorney? I haven’t started the series yet, but going to get the Phoenix Wright games soon.

Same question, how are you liking Forspoken? I liked the demo, but the full game review haven’t been that great. Though some of the people I know who have played the game have enjoyed it.

Thanks for the Chiaki recommendation! I tried it very first day the steam deck arrived, I might play few games this way when SO steals the TV.

Regarding Ni No Kuni, first time I played it I liked the story, but the combat did not click with me (dropped it about 6 hours in). Never played pokemon, so it might be that I’m just not used to that kind of gameplay.

Great Ace Attorney is… well, great. I played the first AA trilogy few years back and liked it a lot, so I knew I would like this games as well, and it definitely delivered. Which collection are you planing to start with? I would suggest the first trilogy, although you can’t go wrong with either of these.

Forspoken is a tough sell. I personally find it fun to play, combat and world traversal are the highlights for sure. The story, while it has it issues, is not as bad as people on the Internet are saying. I would say that if you liked the demo, you would also like the game itself. Not worth the 70$/80€ asking price though.

Hey, since I was pinged by @[email protected] I wanted to chime in. Make sure you are using Chiaki4deck and not just Chiaki. Both should be available in the Discover store in desktop mode. The main branch of Chiaki does not properly support the touch pad for games like Ghost of Tsushima and there are other PS5 improvements to things like color reproduction, etc… There is even a steam deck controller layout template for it. I have links to these in the sidebar over on [email protected]. The creator of chiaki4deck submitted their changes to the main chiaki branch but since it is in maintenance mode, it hasnt been accepted (at least since I last checked). Chiaki4deck is a fork. Let me know if you have any questions!

Yeah, Ni No Kuni was my first Pokémon game too, only later learned that this is what Pokémon games are like. Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of this either, but got used to it.

I like to play all the games in order, if possible, so will start with first trilogy, and then take it from there. Fortunately it’s available on Switch, so no issues there.

Thanks for the info about Forspoken, I still have tons of games to play, so I am sure it would end up on PS+ before I am ready to buy it. Otherwise will get it on sale in a few years.

Skyward Sword HD! The visuals and dungeons are so fun. Also, it turns out it’s the only Zelda game that’s HD and 60FPS. I hadn’t realized this before. I really hope they remake other Zeldas.

Ah, didn’t know thats. Though now that I think about it, it makes sense. I think Link’s Awakening remake would be an exception too, but it was a 2D one.

I haven’t played Skyward Sword yet. I may play Minish Cap on NSO before the Skyward Sword.

      Edit: Minish Cap, not Cup.

Have you played three houses? How would you compare the two?

FE engage is great. It feels really strategic, compact maps with powerful terrain effects and chokepoints to take advantage of, units don’t have a lot of movement, positioning and formation can let you do a lot of cool plays.

The new mechanics, chain attack and break, are very powerful and interesting to play around both on player phase and enemy phase.

The Emblems have some really powerful effects between AoE dance, AoE warp, a billion range nuke, +500 movement on one of your characters, and some other combat steroids. There are a lot of options and I think the game is fun on any difficulty.

The story… uhhh, I liked when the Fire Emblem: Engaged. The plot is very generic and pretty much the same as a plurality of previous fire emblem plots. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing.

I am loving the battles in FE: 3H, but the monastery parts are a bit boring. I have reached the paralogue

          spoiler

The mission where you go to village where people are attacking each other

which I think isn’t that much into the story, but I haven’t been able to hire any single student from another house. Which also makes me think maybe I am not playing that part correctly.

Yeah I shelved TotK about 2 weeks ago I’d say. 90 hours as well.

Nothing on Switch at the moment. Debating starting Pikmin as I’ve never played.

Working my way through FF16 and Batman Arkham City outside of Nintendo consoles.

Yeah finished TotK. Well, finished as much as I’m willing to do anyway. Story, tears and all the shrines is enough for me.

Surprisingly, yes. First time for Arkham City. Played Asylum earlier in the year and picked it the bundle cheap on steam summer sale.

16 is incredible. Having an absolute blast. My GOTY so far.

I have done story and tears, but still have tons of shrines to do. I want to finish most of the side quests, before I officially put it down.

Arkham games are are great, I am glad you are getting to enjoy them. I have only played Asylum and City, need to play Knight and Origins, would get to them eventually.

Hearing that from lots of people about FF16. This year is going to be a really tough competition with all the great games coming out.

Oh yeah this is the Nintendo sub, but anyhows: Arknights has a new event and Fate/Grand Order has released the final part of it’s latest story chapter, I am looking forward to playing through the story in those two mobile games as soon as I have time.

Then after that possibly try to find the rest of the armor pieces in Tears of the Kingdom, unless I get too tempted to get started on Master Detective Archives: Rain Code instead.

Yeah, it’s a Nintendo community, but we don’t mind discussing other games in this weekly thread. Half the games I mentioned in main post, don’t even exist on Switch.

I have been hearing good things about Master Detectives Archive: Rain Code. I have trouble staying away from a game if I already have it, so nice work on that! 😀

What is your percentage completed of TotK? I am still at 41%. I thought I might be at least 50+, so was slightly shocked to see it so low.

        Haha right!

I missed that there is a percentage after beating the game, will have to check when I get home.

I am probably also quite low. I feel like I have skipped over a lot of the map because I would constantly use the towers or just teleporting to the sky islands to glide directly to locations instead of traveling over land and discovering stuff…

Yeah, it’s very inconspicuous. I found out about percentage from other thread, but even then I didn’t notice it after finishing it. Just thought of it when replying to someone here, so looked it up.

I have played the game same way, that’s why it’s so low. And then after watching it, I completed the full Lurelin Village, it’s not overly long but not short either, and it didn’t increase even a single percentage (I didn’t pay attention to values after decimal point, so not sure how much that increased). Though with so much to do, it makes sense that one side-quest won’t increase completion rate by 1%.

I don’t remember how many hours, but quite a few. I’ve done three temples and most of the quests you get from townsfolk before/after the temples, minus the Gerudo region (haven’t been there yet). I enjoy it a lot. I’m not a huge Nintendo person, but I quite liked BotW, and naturally TotK is a great follow-up.

Chicken Horse is awesome and very repayable with friends as you unlock more characters and places. It takes some time to unlock more stuff (kinda like Smash), but we don’t find it too boring or tedious in the process.

Broadly, my thesis is in ecology of an iguana species. Nearly done, but trying not to just play games all day, heh.

Gland you are enjoying TotK. TotK and BotW are some of the best modern games, no matter which console you generally play on.

You can check the hours in your profile. For first 10 days after starting the game, it shows “Stated X days ago”, after that it shows you your hours in increments of 5, “80 hours or more”, “85 hours or more”.

Wow, personally, I am not a huge fan of iguana species, but good luck with the thesis. And yeah, gaming is great, but it shouldn’t effect your normal life. So, keep working on that thesis, then you can take a break and play all the games. 😀

I had forgotten about this last week, but I actualy had Trails into Reverie preordered!

Got it early in this week and started playing. Didn’t have as much time as I’d like, but I managed to reach Act 2, and just got to the Reverie Corridor.

Really want to play more as C since his party is the “new” one, but early-game is mostly focused on Lloyd and Rean.

Ah cool! I have only played the first part of Trails in the Sky. Don’t play on PC much so the second part keep getting delayed. Hoping it would end up coming to Switch. And I want to play the whole series from start, so not playing any of the later games until I have finished Trails in the Sky 😀

Have you played the rest of the series?

I did, and it’s a good thing because CS4 and Reverie depend a lot on you having played both Zero/Azure and CS1-3. Not a lot of Sky connections on the recent games though, just a few returning characters.

And I want to play the whole series from start, so not playing any of the later games until I have finished Trails in the Sky 😀

I’m one of the renegades that don’t think playing in order is truly necessary. Sky has only one plotline that gets carried into Zero/Azure and CS1-2 is mostly self-contained, so it’s perfectly fine IMO to play these out of order. Yeah, you lose some references and gets some spoilers, but nothing that will ruin the fun from the older games if you play them later.

In fact, I believe I went Sky 1-2 -> CS 1-3 -> Sky 3 -> Zero/Azure -> CS4 -> Reverie, and the only time I truly felt “yeah, I should have played the earlier games first” was during the Crossbell section of CS3.

How are you enjoying the game?

The beginning was kinda mid because it starts with Lloyd’s route in Crossbell and that part feels like we’re just rethreading the plot of recent games, but gets much better once you open the other two routes. C’s route being an all-new cast is really great in making the game feel “fresh”, so much that I wish the game started with that one instead of having us go through the early sections of Lloyd’s and Rean’s route first.

It also has a very strong “Sky 3rd” feel, which is good because I think that game is really underrated. The Reverie Corridor is almost Phantasma 2.0, and each of the main routes seems more streamlined than the average game with this series, with less sidequesting and more focus on the main story.

About playing things in order, that’s just something with me. I like to play, read, watch series in the order they are released (whenever possible). So, unless the Sky 2 and 3 become unplayable due to some reason or become so dated I can’t get myself to play them, I would really want to start with those.

Thanks for the detailed response. Much appreciated!

There’s nothing wrong with Sky 2+3 (I think 2 is one of the best games in the whole series), and playing them in order is better - I just disagree with a good part of the fanbase for that series that thinks it’s not just “better” but the “only way” to play the series.

Trying to force this huge time commitment on potential players is a dissevice to the series, games like Zero+Azure are amazing and worth playing even as standalone RPGs.

Ah, I understand that. Most of the people I have talked to, tell me to just start with Cold Steel, but I am stubbornly set on playing all the game in the series.
