PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Developer Interview: My Q&A with the creator of MinigalaxyEnglish10·4 days ago…are you lost?
I know its silly of me to care about down votes. This is the internet after all, and having thin skin on the internet is just crazy.
But the idea that you’re downvoting me for sharing news just strikes me as…insane. Do you not want me to share news on Lemmy? Do you think I’m the developer? If so did you not read this intro to the piece at all?
Again. Just stupid to care about being down voted, but if you’re one of those who have been, I’d love you to just speak up and explain why?
Thanks so much for both reading what I write, and for check in!
I’m okay, for the most part. The good news is that my kidneys have gotten the all-clear and are totally fine. The not-so-good news is that I do have nerve damage. Oh my right hip, and on my left thigh. That means I won’t know for another 10 months if I am able to reverse or slow the damage at all.
A hard pill to swallow (so to speak), and pretty devastating all up. But, I was expecting worse!!!
But I’m in a better place, I’ve cut back on work a ton (lucky to be in the financial position to do so), and am focusing on lots of physical activity. I’m also spending time bringing the cabin I bought to life - which has been really nice. Escaping Paris helped I think.
And, catching up on writing plenty of gaming, too. I’ve so many to come in the next week or two, not including any dedicated Steam Deck / Gaming News posts. So its really nice to get back to them!
Thanks for writing, always makes me smile :)

Here is another which has explicit exposure, this one from Chile has exposed breasts, also. And far more obvious to the viewer
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish10·16 days agoIronic!
This is the purple shade of the GCN, and its one of the ‘hero’ size images available to use, on SteamGridDB. I just liked to grab one image in that size to separate each ‘section’ in this post.
But…I know, it looks like an error -___-
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish36·16 days ago*Miss, not man!!!
(I’m just glad people enjoy all this weirdness as much as I do!)
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish5·16 days agoif it actually exists.
Its easily available, but I suppose by ‘in the wild’ you mean picking it up in a secondhand store, rather than online marketplaces. If not, have a look at buyee to pick up a bargain.
Interestingly they command a higher price than I expected on eBay.
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish51·16 days agoI just wanted to have actual, official ones shared!
This one is not official, it was done by a girl who goes by shy smith three years or so ago, she just tried her best to make a photo in the ‘style’ of the old Y2K era, and the days of PS2 ads and…everyone ended up believing it was real. She did such an amazing job of it, this one often gets shared as if it were done for Sony.
And…to be fair, the actual official ones got way worse than those I included:
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish19·16 days agoIt feels VERY Quake-esque, too. So they nailed that image!
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish14·16 days agoOh this was nothing. My ‘news’ posts take me some time, and effort, which is why they’re kinda on pause right now (the 17th is when I see my specialist, get blood results, see what is next etc), so for now it’s this kinda thing - smaller!
But thank you so much, glad you enjoyed these :)
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish33·16 days agoI like the Nintendo ones, there were ‘risky’ ads here, now they’re very conservative
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a galleryEnglish30·16 days agoThere’s more, but I suppose…back then shock was a tactic, the gaming industry wasn’t as clean cut and commercialized as it is now, and they were appealing to a certain demographic?!
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Mattel introduces its first Barbie with Type 1 diabetesEnglish473·20 days agoAs a girl who grew up with type 1 diabetes, seeing these tasteless jokes in here just remind me of the shitty time kids can have when they feel different to other kids and get singled out for something they can’t control.
So what if its a gigantic mega-corp, they’re doing a good thing here for children.
Disgusting fucking ‘jokes’. Shitty people.
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Smaller rally/racing games I recommend you try!1·20 days agoThese are wonderful! Exactly the kind of thing I hoped might be suggested - less reviews generally means less known, so I’m excited to try!
I think some people get caught up on the few AAA offerings, and miss the indie car games. But maybe I’m generalizing.
I appreciate these, hope others do also :)
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•For people who want to play their favorite games but are unable to, what are you currently doing?English2·24 days agoIf you want to reach out to me for a chat, I’m happy to walk you through what your phone is capable of doing. Emulation is such a scene now, even low-low end phones are capable of doing so much now. You might now be getting winlator running to play PC games (which is no problem for some phones), but you can even play some basic Switch games. Or worst case if it’s very underpowered, you’ve got so many games from the golden age of RPG’s to play through
- SNES
- Mega Drive/Genesis
- PS1
…and so on. I know this won’t be the “…the games I would otherwise want to play on PC…” but it is still playing incredible games. So, as always, let me know. I’m happy to help with that front!
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldOPto Games@lemmy.world•Developer interview: my Q&A with a PC game 'repacker'English1·26 days agoI guess just on Mastodon!
I tens to post there daily, and I’m trying to force myself to take a break on my regular long-form gaming news posts on Lemmy, and instead focus on my health. I have a important appointment with my specialist on the 17th so, its 50/50 odds whether I’ll make another news post here before then or not
But, again, daily on Mastodon!
And thank you so much for your kind, kind words. I feel like an imposter so often when I share these, so your words are really appreciated!
I’m so glad you liked this :)
PerfectDark@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Old gamers don't understand what mobile gaming has becomeEnglish1·27 days agoMobile gaming, on Android, is an interesting space right now. I used to buy flagship phones exclusively, as high spec as I could just…because I could. I played a few emulated Nintendo Switch games on them, as well as the odd Game Pass title (with a telescoping GameSir Xbox mounted controller thing) and then I realized I really had no use for them. I rarely played, and my most recent phone purchases have been mid-range.
That said, so much is now possible on Android. You can emulate everything from Switch to PS3, use pretty front-ends to use as a launcher station (a quick note of appreciation for the totally FOSS option - Lemuroid), and as unbelievable as it still is to me, you can even play full PC games like GTA V using winlator
The scene for Android emulation is incredibly dramatic with frequent in-fighting, but also pretty impressive from a technical standpoint. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea - and that’s fine, but the mobile scene which isn’t just gatcha games hooking kids on the Play Store is so varied. Then you’ve got actually impressive games like DREDGE getting a Android release, replete with custom builds and changes for the Android system (no lazy ports!). Heck, even No Man’s Sky is coming to Android soon!
On the topic of Steam Deck, how reliably do the GOG achievements and cloud saves work with Heroic Launcher? I’ve been using Non-Steam game launcher for Non-Steam games, but it doesn’t always add the game reliably to Steam so I’m stuck doing it manually.
I’ve had some bad blood with the ‘developer’ of NSL in the past. But that’s all ancient history. My main issue with NSL (still to this day) is that it has everything installed under one prefix. This is just insane to me, if one thing goes wrong…everything disappears. But, of course it’s all personal choice and lots of people enjoyed using it before NSL got kicked off Decky Loader, publicly denounced by Kyle (developer of Bazzite) added religious scripture to his work, generally proved themselves to be a shitty person.
Anyway! On to Heroic:
Achievements:
GOG achievements work flawlessly. My good friend imLinguin is in charge of the GOG integration on Heroic, and his work with Comet (how the achievements are logged) is amazing! There’s no on-screen pop up for the achievement, but it is logged on your profile on GOG’s site, as is your playtime.
Adding the game to Steam:
Its in the settings - automatically add the game to Steam, and it’ll do it for you! As well as populate the game with all the required artwork for the title (capsule, capsule wide, logo etc). It does require a restart however to add it to your Steam game library - under non Steam games tab!
Cloud Saves:
They’ve not failed me yet, but the team and imLinguin do warn that it is not finalized yet. It’s ‘experimental’ - that being said, it’s perfect for me. It ‘just works’. Once you set it in the game’s settings you can double-checl (if you like) on the GOG site: https://www.gog.com/account/cloud-saves/page/1 - you’ll see it listed once it is done and you know you’re safe!
^ Here’s an example of the last game I played via Heroic - TOEM, and the saves were uploaded and are sitting there nicely :)
Lastly if you’re super curious, my friend Gardiner has a server on Revolt where quite a few dev friends of mine, including imLinguin drop by now and then to share their news and work and chat. You could ask him in the server if you’ve any questions! Here’s the link to the Revolt server, if you’re wanting to see!
That’s really kind of you! Don’t expect to be inundated, it’ll be a weekly thing for whoever is in the fediverse scene, loves gaming, tech and so on, and wishes to contribute articles. I think it’s fun, so I’m glad you gave it a nod of approval!
Thanks :)
