FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish1·1 个月前Then it’s not an alternative
If it pays “a good bit more per view” than YouTube when basically no one on YT pays and many users have adblockers, someone is getting ripped off here
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish1·1 个月前Then at this point I start to wonder: why can’t they take people in countries where the cost of living is cheaper? When you’re funded by donations, this seems more logical
I feel like companies based in the USA and accepting donations make it so that donations from countries outside USA are a lot less meaningfull because we get less money, and they need to spend more.
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish1·1 个月前So 170k$ isn’t that much
If that’s the amount the company pays, then yea. If this is the amount the employee receives, then that’s a lot. Like really.
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish1·1 个月前what the employee pays
seems like there’s a problem here?
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish1·1 个月前Indeed, but it’s understandably a super high amount compared to what we get. If you’re in good shape, you get way more money. If not, you probably get (a lot) less.
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish1·1 个月前Pretty much the same in France. Companies pay 150% to 200% of the amount that the employee receives, when the employee has a relatively high pay, and the employee then pays a significant amount of its pay in diverse things, then the income tax hits. France is pretty much one of the countries that taxes the most in the world so…
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish1·1 个月前People have been saying this for years now.
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish1·1 个月前Who pays for the servers? Because if even big platforms like Signal sometimes struggle to pay the bills, in part because they spend a lot on their servers, then it’ll be dozens of times worse with video hosting
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Linux@lemmy.ml•What is your most useful Linux app which others might not know about (please don't just give the name but a link and why it is good for you) ?2·1 个月前Running a TOTP app on desktop seems like a potential security issue. Get a malware on your desktop and you’re fucked
I believe the reason we use mobile devices is that they have better isolation and are generally less vulnerable
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish47·1 个月前Unless we have some serious alternatives, that won’t happen anytime soon
Video hosting is really expensive. Every service running for free will eventually enshitify and turn out similar, because there’s no such thing as free massive servers
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish8·1 个月前Funnily enough, it shows the localised amount.
For me in France it shows 50k€ to 69k€, so $58k to $80k at current exchange rates
It just confirms that this is USA only haha
Btw glassdoor sucks. Forces you to have an account and register work shit
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•Matrix.org is Introducing Premium AccountsEnglish1·1 个月前if it’s a matter of years and not centuries then in fairly alright. In many countries nowadays, new borns will never have ownership of a house or flat.
Even in europe, $50k yearly would be considered a good pay, and house in major cities would also cost way more than $170k
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish1·1 个月前It’s the people that make blocking lists that we should thank. I don’t think uBO makes anything themselves
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish1·1 个月前If you reach the frequent limitations like X codec is premium only, then yes. Else, no, you’re free to go
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish1·1 个月前If it forces you to pay and have an account, how is it better than YT?
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish1·1 个月前Stop using it completely then, and we’ll see if that’s the case
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish1·1 个月前I mean if they get forced ads I would understand, but at the current state I would say there are too many.
If YouTube premium was less expensive it would be a great in-between
I personally use YT premium and music by faking my country. Getting it for like 3.50€/month feels like a great deal
FireIced@lemmy.super.ynh.frto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube might slow down your videos if you block adsEnglish2·1 个月前They probably overused yt-dlp and are now required to fill a captcha + log in to an account.
It took me some time to understand the problem
That’s not their job though
